Choosing the Drive

Distance by road: 280Km approx.
Route: Kathmandu - Naubise -  Mugling – Narayanghat – Butwal – Bhairahawa – Lumbini

Your journey to Lumbini in a Jeep will begin early in the morning with a scenic drive from Kathmandu. The drive usually takes 8 - 9 hours to complete. Within that time, you will pass through beautiful hills and winding roads starting from the Tribhuvan Highway

Upon reaching Naubise, the Prithivi Highway starts and takes you through lush hills and riverside views. Approximately, after 70km you’ll reach Muglin. Muglin is a major crossroads where you'll leave the Prithivi Highway and take the Mahendra Highway. On moving further to Naranghat, you’ll have to cross the Chitwan National Park, where deer and monkeys are commonly spotted.

Now, your next stop to reach is Butwal. Riding for a straight 120 km on the plain terai road, you’ll reach there and find the weather being quite warm. Now you are not much away from Lumbini. Quickly, within a 30km of ride, you’ll reach your final destination, Lumbini.

Choosing the flight from Kathmandu to Bhairawa

Flight Duration: 30–35 minutes
Total Travel Time: 2 to 2.5 hours (including airport check-in and drive)

If you don’t want the long drive from the road, you can take another option of a flight that we are flexible to provide. The flight gives you a more relaxed journey and more time in Lumbini. You will set off from the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, and land at the Gautam Buddha International Airport, Bhairahawa. Upon your arrival, our staff will take you to your hotel, where you can relax.

Evening delight

In the evening, you are free to explore the area nearby. Have a peaceful walk by the garden, visit local shops, or just have an orientation from your guide to prepare for the next day.

Tour Distance Covered: 7 - 10km on foot
Duration: 6 hours (average)

Soon after you have your breakfast, go on to explore the sacred sites of Lumbini. Be with your guide all day, and quench your thirst of curiosity with the knowledge provided by your guides. Here is the information about what and how you will explore the whole day:

Maya Devi Temple tour and the Sacred Garden exploration

Maya Devi temple is the exact birthplace of Buddha. You’ll see the seven steps taken by the child Buddha and surely get surprised. You’ll then see the Marker Stone, the Nativity Sculpture, and ancient architecture. Please show your respect through dress and by removing your shoes before entering the temple. Surrounding the temple is the sacred garden, where you’ll watch the ancient stone carvings and enjoy the peaceful vibe generated by the Bodhi tree.

Ashoka Pillar Lumbini

The Ashoka Pillar is another interesting landmark. It was built by the Emperor Ashoka and marks the exact place where Gautam Buddha was born. It also has a note in it to confirm. You must keep the picture of it if you are collecting historic pics.

Lunch Break

We’ll organize your lunch break at midday in a reputable restaurant nearby or maybe at your hotel. This will be a traditional Nepali meal especially prepared to suit your spiritual tour of today.

The monastic zone

We will take you to the international monastic zone in the afternoon. This zone consists of many monasteries of unique design built by different countries. These countries are

Thailand
Japan
China
Sri Lanka
Germany
And many others

Each of the monasteries reflects the architecture and culture of its country. Each of them shows their Buddhist tradition. This makes the monastic zone not only multi-cultural but quite an interesting one as well. Use this opportunity to learn a lot about the diversity within Buddhism.

World Peace Pagoda

You'll also visit the World Peace Pagoda after exploring through the monastic zone. This pagoda is a prominent symbol of peace and unity, designed by the Japanese Buddhists. Its location makes it more attractive. Situated on a hill just outside the main monastic zone and providing a wide view of the entire Lumbini, this is a must-visit destination for every first-time visitor.

Evening meditation

In the evening, you'll have an option to meditate in the garden's peaceful environment. We would recommend that you must participate there. For many, it's not the option, it's an opportunity. We hope you'll utilize this one for obtaining the peace and calm of mind in the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Accommodation: Your same hotel in Lumbini

Meals: Breakfast,Lunch and DinnerAccommodation: HotelDuration: 4-6 hours

After a peaceful night in your hotel. Today is the time to depart from Lumbini. You’ll still have time to visit the area nearby or go for a morning walk after your breakfast. If visiting any monasteries is left in the exploration day before, this is the time to fulfill it.

Similar to your arrival, the departure will also have two options that depend on your preference - the roadway and the flights. To experience both of them, you can choose the alternative of your arrival. However, as you know, flights are always more comfortable and efficient. Gautam Buddha and his Lumbini

Gautam Buddha and his Lumbini - A Dive into the History

The biography of Buddha is very popular. The transformation of Siddhartha Gautam into Buddha and formation of Buddhism is inspiring story.

Queen Maya Devi was the mother of Gautam Buddha. Before 2,600 years, she gave birth to Prince Siddhartha Gautam in the Gardens of Lumbini while on her way to her mother's home in Devdaha. Buddhist tradition tells that Siddhartha took seven steps as soon as he was born and spoke words of knowledge. This moment indicated the beginning of this spiritual journey that will change the world.

Buddha left the royal palace in search of the truth behind the sufferings of ordinary people when he reached 29. He then walked to India and reached a Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya. There, he began to meditate for several years. After many years of meditation and self-awareness, he received an enlightenment and began to share his teachings, which became the basis for Buddhism.

Today, this place is a symbol of peace and nonviolence all over the world. In a world full of violence and limited humanity, this place stands out as a must-visit destination in Nepal for those who still believe in the principles of Lord Buddha.

Experience Variation of the Lumbini tour throughout the Year

Visiting this Holy place is satisfying in all seasons of the year. However, at some specific times, like Buddha Jayanti or the best season, can make the experience even more enriching. Here’s an overview of how you will experience this tour to Lumbini in all seasons

September to November - The Autumn Season

Many travelers consider this time as the most favorite time to go on touring. This is also an important reason for Lumbini getting overcrowded this season. This time of the year brings one of the most stable weather conditions in Lumbini. The clear skies and comfortable temperatures are the proofs. You'll enjoy it more while walking around the sacred garden and visiting the World Peace Pagoda.

Autumn also provides beautiful natural views, as the green after the monsoon becomes more alive, and the spiritual atmosphere is calm and peaceful. Many passengers prefer this season due to the ideal combination of weather and visibility.

March to May - Spring season

Another excellent time to plan your Lumbini tour is in the spring, when the weather is perfect with warm and stable temperatures. Lumbini gets extra attractive during this season. And the credit goes to the blooming flowers and green vegetation.

Many cultural and religious programs are also organized during this season. These programs are especially related to Buddhism in Nepal and abroad, and also provides the opportunities for tourists to participate.

June to August - Monsoon Season

Lumbini experiences heavy rainfall and moisture during the monsoon months. While the sacred places remain open, travel may be affected by:

Slippery roads,
Muddy paths, and
Limited visibility

This time is usually less preferred by tourists, as long as they are particularly interested in off-season touring. The roadway from Kathmandu can also be affected by heavy rainfall. Out of all these, the tour still welcomes tourists who want solitude and a unique monsoon experience in Nepal.

December to February - The Winter season

In winter, the Lumbini region brings quiet and foggy weather, especially in the morning and evening. Day temperatures are comfortable, and you can still enjoy the trip. However, you must be prepared for the cold in the morning and evening. If you want to be here for a winter vacation, we can help you plan wisely for the tour and make your trip memorable.
